Abstract

[Name] My analysis focuses on Office Space which is a film that documents the software industry in the 1990s. Office Space film narrates the stressful situations that most workers encounter in their working life. This analysis further summarizes physical, emotional and behavioral systems. This paper also summarizes the measures a company can adopt to reduce and counter these psychological problems. Office film tells the story of three workers Peter Gibbons, Michael Bolton, and lastly Samir Nagheenanajar who work for Intech software company. The three workers are dissatisfied with the work. Further, Bolton and Samir are almost losing their jobs. Peter Gibbon is one of the three workers who is dissatisfied and demotivated with the mundane job. Additionally, Peter faces harassment at work from eight managers who ask him the same questions. The only motivation that makes Peter work hard is the fear of losing his job. Intech supervisors are just concerned about the performance of the company. The managers are angry with Peter because of clerical mistakes in his reports. They become angrier when Peter destroys company property and shows carefree behavior. Peter’s Lateness and absenteeism also interfere with the company’s performance. Some of the physical problems the office space employees are facing are lower working energy and high-stress levels. Emotional symptoms are shown by Peter, who continually says how he hates his job. He is always irritated and frustrated Peter goes to an extent of visiting a hypnotherapist as suggested by his girlfriend, with an aim of reducing workplace stress. However, things do not get better because the hypnotherapist dies because of a heart attack when hypnotizing Peter. He becomes carefree, skips work, and at times reports to work late. Peter shows emotional issues when he comes to work on flip-flops. Emotional symptoms are further shown when he destroys office property. Peter also shows counterproductive behaviors which harm the organization and his fellow workers. He lacks work commitment since he does not...
