Instructor’s Name The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world’s largest and finest museums in Central Park in New York City. The experience in the museum is unforgettable due to the famous pieces of artwork. It is famously known as "the met ."The Met depicts and tells stories of artists around the globe through its rich collection. It houses all forms of art in the world, providing a basis for knowledge. According to (Avery, 2000), the Met has over 2 million pieces of art in 17 curatorial departments spanning over 500years of human history for each continent. One of the most famous art pieces in the Met is ‘Washington Crossing Delaware’ created by German-American artist Emanuel Leutze. The painting was a commemoration of the American Revolutionary War in December 1776. General George led a successful attack and victory over the Hessian forces with the Continental army while crossing the Delaware river. The painting was created in 1851 and acquired by  Kunsthalle Bremen; the original version was destroyed in World war II, bombing in Germany in 1942. Leutze recreated two more versions of the painting, and one piece of the painting was put in the Metropolitan Museum of art. The medium in which the painting was created is Oil on Canvas. Leutze aimed to encourage Europe liberals to emulate the American Revolution. He gained this inspiration from American tourists. The painting includes the picture below; [City, State] Crossing the Delaware, 1851, oil on canvas, 378.5 x 647.7 cm (Metropolitan Museum of Art) The piece of art, 'Crossing Delaware,' is a very interesting piece that reminds Americans of their rich history. It is an inspiration of success and acknowledgment of the revolutionists who fought for a better America. From the Met, I believe this is the best choice of art due to its military significance and that they can lead successful attacks on their enemies, an idea that is eminent in American Society today.
