The hypothesis of the experiment was that if people listened to Soca music as they fell asleep, they would sleep for longer periods of time. For the experiment, there are 2 groups of people in the experiment. One group was placed in a quiet room to sleep and they were timed on how long they slept. The other group was placed in a room where Soca music played softly and they were timed how long they slept. As each group awoke, their sleep times were recorded. Dependent Variable: Length of sleeping time Control Group: Group sleeping in a quiet room Independent Variable: Listening to Soca music before sleeping Experimental Group: Group sleeping in a room where Soca music played softly Example 2: A study was created to test the effects that clowns have on creating fear in children. The hypothesis of the experimenters was that if babies were exposed to clowns and at the same time a loud cymbal was struck close behind them, then that child would be afraid of all clowns. Another group of children would be exposed to clowns without any loud noises. The study was completed; hundreds of young children developed a fear of clowns.
