The Imperative of Unity in Diverse Societies

Abstract

Institutional Affiliation 19th April 2021 Unity 1 Unity is the act of togetherness or the concept of being at one with people or an ideology. Some people view unity as important since it makes them brave, provide energy and influence that are essential to their survival while others reject it since while fostering unity in diversity, they must accept togetherness with no uniformity and diversity without disintegration. 2 The position I am arguing today is that we need unity in our societies because of survival. Unity plays a major role in our daily endeavours for instance, activities at home, workplace, public transportation, school, hospitals, and government and during natural disasters. Support from others can increase our chances of success especially when fighting injustices in the society. 3 Unity can help us grow as a society. Everybody wants changes in the political system or fighting injustices in the society but no one is willing to take a stand. Organizing campaigns or participating in peaceful demonstrations can provide a huge impact as compared to what an individual can achieve. Furthermore, teammates work together to achieve a common goal while the community come together to form neighbourhood watch groups. It is possible to achieve success alone but moving together as a company or a neighbourhood provides the courage and power to achieve common goals. Unity is a fundamental subject in Black history. In order to create an accepting world, recognition of diversity and cultures, the spirit of togetherness has to be involved. Black history shows the struggles, success and traditions of black people in a diverse perspective.
