Abstract
Early Republican from 1789 to 1815 A new government took office after the constitution was ratified in 1789. Under the ruling of George Washington, new economic policies that upheld the needs of the nation. the secretary of the treasury at the time enhanced federal economy by ensuring that the American industries were prevented from foreign competition by a tariff. According to ("The Early Commercial Republic, 1789-1815 - Bill of Rights Institute"), “this secretary would then secure the republic’s credit by establishing a fund to pay interest on the national debt, and to take over the debts of the states remaining from the Revolutionary War.” The federalists boosted trade with Great Britain due to the post war economic depression. They also develop the counties internal infrastructure to boost commerce. The antifederalists were not happy about the policies. There was a disagreement on the powers of the constitution in the creation of a national bank. The antifederalists favored the agrarian economy rather than federal economic promotion. They believed that Hamilton’s policies were aristocratic to the British counterparts and were beyond the power of the congress as stipulated in the constitution. The antifederalists reluctantly accepted John Jays treaty to expand trade in with Great Britain and when they took power in 1800, they left the Bank of the United States until the charter expired in 1811 There was great animosity between the federalists and the antifederalists over trade with Great Britain leading to war of 1812 against Great Britain. The war created a greater sense of nationalism by promoting peace agreements that enhanced the American Independence. The war taught the Republicans the necessity of national institutions for self-defense. They realized they needed a national bank that would help in financing the war.
