Abstract

Instructor’s Name Introduction The New Testament has 39 books, while the Old Testament has 27. The Luke Gospel is among the four Gospels of Jesus Christ, including Matthew, Mark, and John. he gave a detailed Chronological event of Jesus Christ from his childhood to manhood among the four Gospels. The Gospel of Luke talks about the origins, birth, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. Author and Place of Origin According to Luke, the author of the Gospel is Luke the Evangelist. An ancient prologue describes Luke as a Syrian from Antioch (Marecek, 2012). This shows that he was not Jewish. The writings of Luke are deemed anonymous, but eyewitnesses such as Bishop Eusebius of Caesarea in the Holy Land allude that Luke was a Syrian and a descendant from Antioch in the 4th Century AD. Other scholars refer to Luke as Gentile Convert and a companion to St Paul in his missionary journeys. The work of Luke is dated after the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD by many scholars, and in his chronological writings, Luke provides an accurate description of the siege of the Roman Empire that took place in 70 AD. Luke describes Jesus' Prophecy on the invasion of the Roman empire by a foreign Army. Structure and Purpose of the Gospel of Luke. Teachings in the Jerusalem Temple Death Resurrection. Purpose As an author of the Gospel, Luke purposed to provide the chronological events that took place during his life on earth. Luke Portrays Jesus Christ as a man of Compassion through various actions. Lukes shows Jesus' interaction with everyone in society, including sinners, women, and children, without discrimination. An example is the famous story of a short man Named Zacheus who climbed a tree to see Jesus. As a tax collector, Zacheus had taken what did not belong to him, and he bowed restitution. The Gospel's primary purpose is that despite humans' sinful nature, they can receive restoration by seeking Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Lukes connects to the Old Testament. God's first divine salvation is manifested through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the coming of Jesus was a fulfilment of the Old Testament prophecies. In the book of Isaiah, the coming of the Messiah is documented. The coming of Jesus Christ was the fulfilment of the messianic prophecy. The story relates to the Old Testament on the Shortcomings of Adam and Eve, which would profoundly impact the temple and the city (Alexander, 2018). The Gospel emphasizes that all humans are sinners and they need salvation. Central Theme of the Lukes’ Gospel; The Royal City of Jerusalem. The Royal City of Jerusalem is mentioned more than 800 times in the bible (Mazar, 2006). “The Lord has chosen Jerusalem and will dwell there forever” (Psalm 132:13-14). The city is believed to be royal, a city of Joy. Luke talks about the royal city...
