Why Time May Be an Illusion: Exploring the Debate on Times Reality

Abstract

The reality of time is defined by earlier and later, while time unreality is defined by the distinctions of the past, present, and future, which are essential in defining time. The distinction of the first class "earlier and later" is permanent while the second class "past present and future are not." This essay aims at doing the following. defining and discussing the unreality of time as argued by the author the solution to the author's arguments (why time is or is not real) explanation of my proposed solution on time objection to my argument and response to the objection According to the author, events tend to appear in two different ways, namely the earlier and the later. The definitions of the earlier and the later could be defined, in a word, as just time. The earlier and the later turn of events could more be expounded in the essence of the past, the present, and the future. The explanation behind this scenario is that some events are bound to have happened in the future, while others are currently happening. Therefore, this implies that the events ought to take certain positions. Besides this, the author has differentiated these events as either B-series or A-series. The A-series are determined by the past, present, and future, while the B-series are determined by earlier and later circumstances. In this correlation, therefore, the author argues that time is unreal. A series of events can only confirm the unreality in the time. For instance, as long as there is a change in the events, then time automatically becomes unreal. On the same note, a fundamental change can only be felt only in the existence of the A-series. But looking at everything keenly, the author insinuates that the A-series seems not to exist. Therefore, this confirming that time is indeed not real. As far as change is concerned, real change can only be felt when the events change. Change is directly dependent on the events bound in the present and future. In this context, therefore, the B-series events are fixed hence proper regardless of time. The only things that are bound for change are the things that are present, which means that if there is no A-series, then there is nothing present. In the absence of anything in the present, then there is no future. The absence of the future makes it hard for anything to change, making time an illusion. In this context, therefore, it means that nothing can exist in the past, the present, and the future, creating a contradiction on the issue of time. Every situation falls in the underlined event. In other words, every event is past, present, or the future. Besides this, it means that the events that are considered to be passed were once present at some time. The contradiction here is that not all the present situations are fit to make the future or that belonged in the past at some time. But the future event is bound to become present at some time, which further becomes the past once the present has been fulfilled. For instance, those who had been sick could talk of the sickness in the present that at some time back in their lives have been unwell. That, therefore, makes the last bit of it in the present. But what about the future? Such a person is guaranteed o speak of the disease in the future but cannot state that or predict that sickness would envelop them in the near future. In the real sense, it would be hard to speak of some things in the future because time is obsolete. Another example of the unreality of time is the planning and goals that people set. In many cases, such do not materialize because of different reasons and variations. Time is the thing that was created in the human mind, and in the real sense, it does not exist. For this reason, there are days and nights set at 24 hours and months at a defined number of days, which are all defined by the number of hours a day is supposed to have. It could have been possible to come up with another method of counting the days and the hours because time is the basic that causes the present, the past, and the future.
