Abstract
Chinese Religion Assignment Confucius was a Chinese philosopher and a teacher of the Chinese religious beliefs who lived from 550 to 449 BC. Confucius propagated the Confucianism way of life in the 6th-5th century BCE, which the Chinese People strictly followed for more than two millennia. Confucius serves as a significant Icon for the Chinese since Confucianism, though transformed over time, still serves as a potential substance of learning, a vital source of value and social codes of the Chinese religious beliefs (Csikszentmihalyi, 2020). Unlike Buddha, who serves as the primary founder of Buddhism, Confucius did not consider himself the founder of Confucianism but instead its transmitter to the Chinese people. Confucius consciously tried to reanimate the old to attain the new by revitalizing the meaning of the past and advocating for a ritualized life. He had a strong sense of history and defined himself as a conservationist whose responsibility towards continuity of cultural values and social norms remained defined as he tirelessly worked for the idealized civilization of the Western Zhou dynasty. Dao is a term that is used in all schools of Chinese philosophy, including Confucianism. It is a term that predates the rise of Daoism with its literal meanings, including way, path, course, speech and method (Saatchi and Zafarnavaei, 2021). It can be best defined as the natural way. Dao nature determines the joyful, carefree, accepting and yielding side of any Chinese character. It is an aspect that helps the Chinese offset and complements the moral and duty conscious attitude and purposeful personality towards the nature of reality. It is a term that contributes significantly to shaping the Chinese way of life, ranging from their beliefs, traditions and everyday forms of living. Dao dictates the benefits of living in harmony with nature, allowing the Chinese to co-exist with each other positively. Guanyin is a mother-goddess and patron of seamen who represents compassion, mercy and kindness. The meaning of the term is coned around the observation of the cries of the human/world. The term is also used to mean the one who perceives the sounds of the world. Guanyin is a female goddess who is compassionate, which enhanced her ability to observe all sounds of suffering in the world. The term proves essential as it enhances the Chinese urge to remain human and caring towards each other, enabling them to relate harmoniously. Buddhism is a religious belief that began in India and later developed further as they moved across Asia. It can be defined as a major global religion with a complex history and system of beliefs. Buddhism history runs way back from the 6th century, with its expansion globally signifying its acceptance amongst its believers (BBC – Religions, 2009). It arose from the ancient Kingdom of Magadha and is strictly based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama. Mahayana Buddhism and Tantric Buddhism serve as the primary branches of Buddhism that began in India and later developed as they moved across Asia, whose influence amongst the Chinese amongst other Buddha believers is unquestionable. The defined branches of Buddhism are coined around four main concepts of Buddhism, namely Dukkha, Trishna, nirvana and the eightfold path. The concepts mentioned above of Buddhism represent the four noble truths that govern and guide the Buddhist way of living. Nirvana is a term used to represent the blowing out of flames or moving the fuel so that the fire can go out. Considering the early traditions of Buddhism, one can define Siddhartha Gautama's psychological transformation under the Bodhi tree at the age of 36 years as a clear sense of the meaning of nirvana (BBC – Religions, 2009). Another scenario that best explains the purpose of nirvana concerning Buddhism is the death of Buddha at the age of 80 years between two Sal trees. Two thousand five hundred years ago, Buddha declared that he would teach the suffering, origin, cessation and path of suffering to his believers. His teachings...
