Abstract
Civil Rights and Historical Distortion The civil rights movements advocated for equal rights and treatment of African Americans in the United States. People conducted rallies for recognition as far as social, legal, cultural, and political changes concerned discrimination and segregation (Mazumder, 2018). Many of the Civil Rights Movement participants began to feel that the process was taking an eternity to actualize the changes they wanted. In this respect, many African Americans began to reject the calls for non-violent protests. They demanded action as of now as opposed to the slower changes that came with peaceful demonstrations. Due to this tension, by 1965, the Civil Rights Movements had split into two. The first comprised the original followers of King, who were for the idea of the peaceful demonstrations. The other comprised other younger and more assertive African Americans who advocated for other methods like the Malcolm X and the Black Panther Party (Mazumder, 2018). The Civil Rights Movements could be accredited to having many notable victories starting with the Jim Crow segregation (Nelson, 2020). Additionally, the Civil Rights Movement facilitated the passage of federal legislation outlawing racial discrimination. The Civil Rights Movement foresaw the emergence of other militant variety of civil rights activists like Malcolm X. He advocated black self-reliance, cultural pride, and self-defense in the face of racial violence at that time. Consequently, there were failures of the Civil Rights Movements experienced over time. The SNCC insisted that the whites should leave the movement, and in doing so, the move hurt the movement. Additionally, the movement failed to achieve an economic breakthrough as it did on political power.
