Abstract
Institutional Affiliation 19th April 2021 [Name] Studies prove that elite polarization limits the options accessible to voters, restricting their capacity to rebuke or reward current governments. Focusing on the view point of comparative elections and accountability in America, the ruling perspective restrains the efficiency of domestic retribution and reward.2The increasing popularity of elite polarization existing in democracies weakens the competence of voters to punish leaders through elections.2This is because leaders are more probable to participate in the commencement of inter-state arguments. The outcome of these disputes will highly cause in long-term disagreement, and eventually that foreign policy result to more discrepancy. The responsibility of electoral accountability in limiting the results of foreign policy and disputes is evident on the how politicians and citizens prioritise policy. The rise of elite polarization imposes major relevance on the position of the party and less significance on government performance.2American polarization will establish more relevant issues such as foreign policies. The outcome will make the government to undertake risky foreign policy preferences since it restrain the capacity of voters to punish executives. As a result, it is possible for unrestrained leaders to embark on military disputes that can progress to serious war.2Hence more dispersal of choices among major actors can result to serious and destructive policy issues as electoral mechanisms be unsuccessful to control and alleged governing parties accountable. Counter Argument American polarization can be a means of democratic accountability in the 2020 presidential election. This is an era of polarized politics where polarization influence the electorate as voters determines the key political parties with specific ideas and classify themselves according to these ideologies.1Polarization is now connecting American elections into a combined narrative demonstrating diverse developments in American politics. The year 2020 is characterized by worldwide pandemic, deteriorating economy, social instability hence the most important trait of presidential election is consistency.1It is a possibility that this election can provide the democratic accountability. Conclusion This argument makes [Author] an important issue during 2020 presidential elections. United States of America is segregated with major parties that stand for different ideologies. Polarization can provide accountability to the people but the continued rise of elite polarization limits the options accessible to voters, restricting their capacity to rebuke or reward current governments. While citizens of America hold diverse abilities to dispute executive actions, there is a distinctive connection between polarization and government performance that interferes with policy accountability. However, the results of 2020 elections will be settled on the turnout of every party’s alliance and the competence of the parties in identifying the realigning aspects and election strategy of those alliances.
