Abstract

Annotated bibliography format To do an annotated bibliography, first find and cite your sources, then for each one, write a short paragraph (the annotation) that summarizes, evaluates, and reflects on the source. The annotation should cover the source's main idea, the author's credibility, and its relevance to your research, and must be in your own words. Finally, arrange your entries in the required citation style. 1. Find and cite your sources Search for sources relevant to your topic.  Save the full citation for each source in the style required by your assignment (e.g., APA, MLA).  Use citation generators to save time, but double-check the accuracy.  2. Write an annotation for each source After reading and understanding a source, put it aside and write the annotation in your own words to ensure it's not copied.  Each annotation is typically a single paragraph( 150-200 words) and should include the following elements:  Summary: Briefly describe the source's central themes, arguments, and scope.  Evaluation: Assess the author's authority, point of view, and the source's reliability and potential bias.  Reflection: Explain how the source is relevant to your topic, how it compares to other sources, and how you plan to use it in your research.  3. Format the bibliography Place the full citation first, followed immediately by its annotation.  Follow the specific formatting guidelines for your citation style (e.g., hanging indent, block indent for APA).  Alphabetize the entries by author's last name.  Include a heading and page numbers if required by your instructor.  Example Waite, Linda J., et al. "Nonfamily Living and the Erosion of Traditional Family Orientations Among Young Adults." American Sociological Review, vol. 51, no. 4, 1986, pp. 541-554.
