Abstract

Date Due: Online schools and their advantages Introduction Following the strike of covid-19 pandemic, online schools and learning has become more prevalent as people try to effectively social distance themselves and cub the spread of the virus. In most countries especially the United States and most of the developed countries, online education has become a popular way of learning for college which has enabled many people to be able to balance between professional duties and family. In the United States alone more than 20 million students have enrolled for online classes in 2020. Through online education, students are able to chat with their fellow students, join their virtual lectures, take virtual exam, pose questions to professors, conduct research and much more. Online education has extensively spread even to the developing countries in South America, Africa and Asia with most high education institutions recoding an increasing number of students interested in online education. There are several benefits that are associated with online school. This paper aims at exploring some of the key benefits that are linked to online school and expound on the reasons why they should be encouraged. One of the key benefits of online education is that a student can be able to work from any where and any time. Online education ensure flexibility on the side of the students enabling them to balance their duties with their education Since the students can be able to access their classes from anywhere, they are conveniently able to study as long as they meet the assignments due dates. Students are also able to review the lectures instantly and there is limited loss of focus in online education lectures. A research done by Jonathan Schooler a lecturer and Psychologist from the University of California indicates that students who take physical classes tend to lose focus for about 5 times in a 45 minutes lecture (Bettinger and Susanna, 13). However, online classes provide a chance for students to review words from their professors instantly through rewinding of the videos or audio or by reading the transcripts that come with the lectures. Another central benefit of online education is that it is less intimidating. What is evident is that many students feel intimidated and are not comfortable speaking in public for most of the physical lectures. Research indicates that more than 74% of students suffer from speech anxiety a notion that is based on research from Nation Institute of Mental Health. However, online education tends to foster and encourage class participation and it makes it easier for students to share their thoughts (Wladis, Katherine and Alyse, 16). Correspondingly, online education gives the students more time to think and before sharing as it is usually done through forums or discussion board. Students who take physical or on-campus lecture are usually required to choose a stance or formulate a thought quickly in class and they are sometimes forced to speak before they can examine the accrued postulation of the question posed. However, for the online education, students can spend as much time as they want exploring the question and thinking a notion that help foster greater confidence and elegant discussions. Online education also enables the students to focus on ideas. Notably, over 90% of online students’ communication is non-verbal and students do not have to worry about the interference of communication that is created by body language. It is worth noting that body language can sometime be effective in learning but academics are more about learning and sharing ideas. Online education...
