Abstract

Work Health and Safety Management Systems (WHSMS) a) Work Health and Safety Management plan contributes to working health and safety system. An example of this plan relates to the following arrangements; Reasonable steps to minimize risks Compliance with the WHS legislation Identification and management of hazards. Objectives and targets and how they will be achieved. Responsibilities in the management plan Rehabilitation of workers in cases of injury and disease. Elements of the WHSMS Training- training is essential for every worker in the workplace. Every contractor, visitor, volunteer, or managers needs to understand their rows, policies of the company, and workplace environment following the WHS act hence need for training Policies and procedures- this provides a framework on how to handle hazards and risk management. Monitoring and supervision- this entails supervision of safety performance on the procedures formulated. Supervision ensures that workers adhere to their safety requirements. Safety plans- it documents workplace health and safety procedures essential for accountability and responsibility. Reporting- reporting occurs at every level of an organization. The management, including the top-level management and board of directors, needs to be aware of its workplace conditions and hazards. Others are people within the workplace but do not carry out activities for the PCBUs. They include visitors, contractors, and other dependencies who have roles and responsibilities within the WHS plan. The roles include the following; Taking reasonable care of themselves and others, i.e., by not putting others at risk or engaging in risky workplace staff. They have to report hazards and risks. In case they identify any risk, they ought to report to the staff or management. They must comply with workplace health and safety procedures, for instance, signing the visitors’ book and maintaining cleanliness. Contractors have to obtain a permit before commencing hazardous work, i.e., demolition and removal of asbestos, to avoid causing harm. Contractors have to ensure their staff is adequately trained to undertake a given work. The WHS policy aims at attaining safety objectives. The elements of the WHS policy include; Commitment to comply with the WHS legislation. Commitment to establish measurable objectives and targets to ensure continued improvement aimed at eliminating work-related injury and illness.
