Abstract
Tutor Date of Submission Subject: Journal 5 & 6 Journal 5 The short story "Two Kinds" written by Amy Tan is a captivating piece that delves into the intricate dynamic that exists here between mother and her young daughter. The narrative is well written and moving, and it does a great job of capturing the concept of the battle to find one's identity while living in a different country. Tan's powerful language and visuals convey the narrator's setting (Atack et al.,2018). The moment in which the mother and daughter walk in the rain and the mother says they are "two sides of the same song" is a good metaphor for their intimacy. Nevertheless, the way in which the mother's love for her daughter is shown inside this narrative is what strikes me as the most fascinating aspect of it. Even if the mother's strategies for encouraging her daughter to be successful are often counterproductive, it is obvious that she has only the highest hopes for her offspring (Adeani et al., 2020). In the end, the daughter comes to this realization and is able to make amends with her mother, demonstrating that the strength of their link is capable of overcoming any challenge. In general "Two Kinds" is a well-regarded short story written by Amy Tan, that does a wonderful job of examining topics such as love, identity, and sacrifice. Everyone interested in Asian-American literature or mother-daughter relationships must read this book. Identity and the quest for self-discovery are two of the story's major themes (Tan et al., 2021). The protagonist's daughter has difficulty balancing her American upbringing with her Chinese ethnicity, and she feels pressure from her mother to do well in a talent competition. In the end, this dispute causes a gap between the two protagonists, emphasizing the difficulties of negotiating cultural differences within a familial structure. Another important theme in the novel is the concept of sacrifice and the lengths parents will go to provide opportunities for their children. The mother in the narrative, who has seen adversity and poverty, encourages her daughter to achieve academic and musical success in order to provide a better future for her (Blakeway et al., 2018).The narrative "Two Kinds" focuses on a variety of common themes and experiences, including the need for acceptance and the battle to find one's place in the world, and is overall a moving and thought-provoking one. Anybody interested in Asian-American literature, connections across generations, and the difficulties of identity and belonging must read it. Journal 6: As I went through the journal, I found many aspects of "Two Kinds" by Amy Tan to be interesting. The plot centers on the battle to discover one's identity while living in a strange country, which is one of the most intriguing components of the narrative as a whole. The narrator, a little girl of Chinese descent who was born and raised in the United States, struggles with the conflicting influences of her mother's traditional Chinese beliefs and the society in which...
