The Role of Sports in Shaping American Culture and Values

Abstract

American Culture and Sports Sports play a vital role in the American society in that it aids in the transmission of values such as justice, fair play and teamwork. Sports have contributed to racial and social integration and have helped in bonding the American nation together. In real sense, sports place its citizens in a position that gives them opportunities to interact and join social networks (D’Angelo, 2019). Further, sports aids in the development of relations with the other members of society. It acts as a media for reaching out to the underprivileged members of society and the decimated members. In America, some member states incorporate sport as a tool and an indicator in their social policies. They use the framework of the open method of coordination on social protection and inclusion. In many areas, sports have contributed to economic growth by creating employment and have helped in the revitalization of the disadvantaged areas (D’Angelo, 2019). As far as sports are concerned, I think basketball and baseball could be described as an American sport. First, basketball has its history that an immigrant was invented and is usually termed as being meticulously democratic. The same rules govern each player. Basketball is the sport that every player plays both at the offensive and the defensive simultaneously, and it is seen to hold much freedom. On the other hand, baseball has been there long enough, and sill stirs some American soil excitement. Sports could help provide cultural values through the promotion of human rights.
