Introduction Technology has come about so many changes in society that people hardly do anything without machines' assistance. From transport to communication to educational and medical fields, technology has taken over. With this came social media, which has had both negative and positive impacts on society. The impacts of social media in the society that this essay aims at answers the question, is social media good for society? The essay will deeply discuss why social media is important to society, detailing how educational opportunities, connecting people globally, and good business opportunities are important. Social media is good the society because it tends to provide access to educational opportunities that were not previously available. People have learned how to do things through social media in that interactions are done virtually. People can interact with other communities, learning their languages and cultures (Morris and James,2017). In the modern world, one can do anything through the internet, which has changed the learning patterns worldwide. Therefore, considering the works of Plato, Allegory of the Cave, one can ascertain that people have managed to move outside their cultural, religious, and political caves through social media (Airoboman and Osawaru, 2017). For instance, people have come to learn that what could have been perceived as being poisonous in a particular community is perhaps a delicacy in another. Through social media, people in particular setup find out that some mindsets are not true. For example, what could be perceived as killer diseases, and acceptance of God's will in one community could not be necessarily true since, in another community, the same diseases are treatable. People have been freed from their captivity through the power of the internet and social media. Jaruzelski et al., (2013) argue that social media is good for society because it tends to revolutionize businesses giving everyone an equal voice. In social media, there are no gatekeepers as far as publishing whereby one could update anything regarding businesses, and anyone stands a chance of viewing it. Through social media, small and large businesses all have the same opportunities to speak with people, hence creating more opportunities. Initially, only companies were able to purchase advertisements, but as of today, any sized companies could comfortably jump into conversations on any social network. Social media has made many companies escape the caves of analog and enabled them to see the light of the digital world (Jaruzelski et al., 2013).
