Abstract
Instructor’s Name Culture plays a fundamental role in human development. It is our life’s blueprint on how we live, eat, behave, how we define what is right or wrong, how we speak, relate, and our utmost values in society. The cultural development theory ascertains the importance of relationships in personality development (Jack 2020). The Cultural Development Human theory relates to Shonda Rhimes's story. In her video “My Year of Saying Yes to Everything.” she describes something unique called the hum, which dictates one’s life direction. Through Shonda’s talk, we learn that the hum can stop, meaning that our lives sometimes take different dimensions due to environmental changes and changes in tastes and preferences, which may lead to a boring life that we are not used to. The theory of human development associates boredom at work with meaningless relationships. The Human development theory alludes to how human beings develop physically and psychologically throughout their lifetime. Shonda implies that we fall not knowing who we are and what we are doing due to devastation and shock on our life expectations. She refers to this shift as a loss in the hum. She regains this hum by sting yes to everything, and her child gives her insight of “play” as a turning point in her life. The hum was regained, and it manifested itself as love. When we devote ourselves to what we love, we achieve and fulfill our dreams. The Cultural Development Human theory relates to Sheryl’s story in the context of professionalism. This theory regards professional behavior as static. The concept of ethics is exaggerated, and what is ethical is overheard with a notion of upholding professionalism. This analogy of codification of ethics affects human relationships. Sheryl Sandberg’s interview is about feminism and gender.
