Abstract
For the Annotated Bibliography assignment, the first source you are required to choose is a scholarly peer-review journal article published in the last ten years. As you look for a suitable article in UT's databases, it would be helpful to remember that journal articles are primarily written by and for specialists in the field. In addition, most journals have a letter to the editor type function to allow dispute if an article is controversial. Finally, citation standards are high and standardized by the chief editor. After you have selected a journal article that is relevant to your topic, read it closely and strategize how to summarize it using your skills from Fall semester combined with your new skills for analyzing the rhetorical situation. To help you understand college standards for research and summary, we are providing a rubric below with questions to guide your work. This rubric has a fine level of detail to help you break down the research, reading, and writing skills that will help you succeed on your college-level annotated bibliography. Tips: Journal articles present deep professional conversations. Do not feel discouraged if you do not understand everything at the first read. Rise to the challenge by marking what you don't know on the first read of the article. Then do a Google search or use Wikipedia to look up the meanings of any unfamiliar terms. When you revisit the article after this exercise, you will find that it is much easier to follow. Keep in mind that the journal article will stretch your reading ability.
