Abstract

A Better Life is a movie that focuses on the struggles that illegal immigrants undergo in the United States of America, all under the umbrella of being in camouflage. The lead character, Chris Weiltz, portrays how hard it is to be in America illegally and, worse still, how hard it is to get or seek help from the authorities as long as one is in America illegally. To add salt into injury, the majority of the illegal immigrants all wish for a better life one day, and they go to extremes of self-sacrifices without blowing their existence as much as possible. Being an illegal immigrant means that one lacks basic living certificates and licenses, making it very hard to operate legal businesses and good jobs. A Better Life is a practical example of why and how illegal immigrants have to be invisible because otherwise, they would get into trouble. On the other hand, in Born in East L.A, issues that affect illegal immigrants are highlighted. It brings the reality of the thousands of people, and many who have watched it feel that they have been impacted somehow. It is a movie that tends to tell the stories of many people around the world. With the much intermarriage across the world, the movie tells a story of how people get lost in the mixture of different cultures. Born in East L. A focuses on Mexican-American nationalism whereby at the beginning of the film, Rudy, the main character, sees himself as more American than a Mexican. Rudy looks like a Mexican, but unfortunately, she does not understand any of the Mexican cultures. Regardless of everything, people do not understand that Rudy was born in East Los Angeles but has to undergo much racism and misunderstanding. The major issue...
