CRJU-401-601 [Name] The Midterm Exam is administered in an Essay Format, and requires you to write using the APA style manual, (cover page, reference page, etc.). Two principle sections form the basic framework of the essay. Each section intersects with the next to form a complete, and historical, timeline. Therefore do not jump from one section to the next without transitioning (how does this material link to the next section, and what are you going to present?). Be specific. That way the reader understands how theories and substantive issues are integrated and advanced over time. Be sure to explicate each theory in a comprehensive manner. Don’t just mention the theorist, etc. Explain the basic propositions and substantive issues associated with the research. What methods are used to measure variables? Detail the basic analysis given by the theorist. Also place specific emphasis on the strengths and weaknesses of the theories. This is best emphasized through critical analysis. You may use any material at your disposal to construct and write the essay. This could include, the textbook, notes taken, lecture outlines and power point presentations, posts from the discussion board (hopefully you saved them), research articles, additional theories, and any number of resources related to the field of study. A question commonly asked by students pertains to the number of pages required for the essay. While I do understand that many instructors/professors will dictate a specific number of pages as a requirement for specific writing assignments, I am of the school of thought dictating that students decide for themselves how many pages to write. After all, it’s your scholarship, and only you can decide when, and if, you’ve covered the subject(s) of the essay to your liking.
