Abstract
Please refer to the Excel file Titled βFinal data MAT 135β in D2L for the data for this case study. A study was conducted to compare vacation habits. Participants were asked for their age, gender and race and the amount they would be willing to spend on a vacation. Data was collected from 40 participants. Find the mean, median and mode for the amount participants were willing to pay for a vacation as a whole, then for males and females separate. (10 pts) Assuming that the data are normally distributed, what is the probability of a female spending more than $800 on a vacation? What about a male? (For this question, assume that your results are representative of the population so you can use the Normal distribution) (10 pts) How much are males willing to spend on a vacation? What about females? (hint: find confidence intervals) (10 pts) Are people willing to spend more than $1000 on a vacation? Write out the hypotheses and conduct the test. (10 pts) Are females willing to spend more than males on a vacation? Assume the data is a sample for this one. Write out the hypotheses. (15 pts) Are older people more likely than younger people to be willing to spend more on a vacation (you must decide what is older and younger; hint: use statistics!)? Write out the hypotheses. (15 pts) Perform a linear regression to see whether age is related to the amount people are willing to spend on a vacation. Briefly Discuss your results. (15 pts) Are there differences between the amount people are willing to spend on a vacation based on race? Write out the hypotheses and conduct the appropriate test. (15 pts)
