Abstract

SOCIAL PSYC CLASS (chapter 4 reading) Week 3 Discussion: Cognitive Dissonance First one The authors investigate what determines differences in change in pay between men and women executives who move to new employers. Using proprietary data of 2,034 executive placements from a global search firm, the authors observe harrower pay differences between men and women after job moves. The unconditional gap shrinks from 21.5% in the prior employer to 15% in the new employer. This change reflects a relative increase in performance-based compensation for women and a lower level of unexplained pay inequality generally in external placements. Controlling for individual fixed effects, observed women have higher pay raises then do men. Finally, the authors find suggestive evidence that pay differences may also be moderated by differences in the supply and demand for women executives. They found that following an external job move, women receive higher raises then do their male counterparts, thereby reducing pay inequality. Two factors that underlie this change is residual pay inequality was smaller at the new employer relative to the old. Secondly, increased at-risk performance- based pay for women in the new positions contributed to narrowing pay differences between men and women. However, women contributed to earn lower performance-based pay than men after the move. Second one I found AN article on Gender dysphoria, and  how there are systemic issues surrounfog What GD implies. Incase you do not know what gender dysphoria is, i will explain it.  Gender Dysphoria as it staes in the DSM- T5-R is clinically significant distress or impairment related to gender incongruence, which may include desire to change primary and/or secondary sex characteristics. this can mean that a person may want to change pronouns from he/him to she/ her or the more common They/them.  in the article  "What is Gender Dysphoria? A Critcal  Systemic narrative review. it speaks on how most doctore in the psych field mist diagnose most patients. in the arrticle in the introduction" The DSM-IV’s5 diagnosis of GID assumes that diverse gender identities are inherently disordered and consequently perceived by many to be stigmatizing." (Davy, Toze 2018) . The article is a systemic review, and the aim is to figure out what the correct  diagnosis is for GD. what the authors did was take a look at how valid and thorough the investigation of articles ands findings are to match criteria of the DSM- 5 TR and if not it is considered invalid.  The authors used a narrative approach, in which they  were trying to find out what was the way that GD was used in samples, artifacts , policies etc etc.  I think that GD is too broad to be analyzed as a clinical diagnosis, and that certain criteria does not fit.  i agree with most finding about GD in this article.   CULTURAL PSYCH CLASS chapter 3-6 reading Week 4 Discussion 1: blue zones 100 minimum First one brooke Question #1: Longevity and procreative success are both similar terms but mean different things. Longevity means the length of an indivudal persons life and focuses on an indivudals life expectancy. Procreative success on the other hand means the age where you have children and then another generation, the age when your children have children. Agge reversal doesnt truly exsist because there are to many things that could go wrong within the human body and too many things that age us throughout our lifetime that we wouldnt be able to reverse those things that already have changed and aged. Our cells in our bodies have to do with aging because our cells get damaged over time and cause use to age faster and faster as we get older in age which is what is making us age or is a factor is us aging.  Question #2: Some examples of health and well-being practices and customs from different countries that makes themblue zone regions is that in Sardinia, Italy are that these indivudals eat properly and grow their own food a well as the organization of their society is where older indivudals are treated better at an older age than they would be at a younger age which is different than how most countries are at the moment. Another thing is that older indivudals are physically active even as they get older and keep themselves working and going. Then in Okinawa, Japan, these indivudals eat plant based diets, make sure that they don't over eat during meals, and have bigger support systems or friend groups that stick with them throughout life unlike some countries where they only keep one close friend during their lifetime. Lastly, in [City, State], the individuals living in this area follow conservative methodists beleifs and follow the diet straight from the bible. They spend undivided time together once a week for 24 hours as well as use that time to do nature walks to stay fit and healthy. Lastly they stay active in work and volunteering to keep them busy and active as well.  Second one gabby Longevity:   I would define longevity as the human desire to live longer, with a better quality of life. In other words, the desire to stop the aging process (or slow it down) to maintain vitality and live as long as possible.   Procreative success:  Proactive success refers to a mammal’s true lifespan (including humans). It refers to the age where you have children, and hopefully, the next age when your children have children, then evolution dissipates. Proactive success basically implies mammals are designed to reproduce, and after that, we are meant to pass on.   Differences:   Longevity and procreative are diferent in the sense that longevity strives on “reversing” the effects of age while “procreative success” focuses on the mission of mammals: to procreate, and hopefully see the next generation. Longevity is what humans long – to “live to 100”, but the truth is that humans are only built for procreative success. Making the major difference between the two being one is longevity is the expectation, to reverse aging, and hold out for as long as possible, versus the reality of how bodies and the natural aging process are meant to be. However, a positive study in Sardinia (5:08) found that the way their society treats their elders has a positive effect on life span. Since they are treated with respect and often live with their families, the activity of being around their children and grandchildren proved to extend their lives. It was found to extend their life 4 – 6 years. In addition to this, having grandparents around is also better for the children, as they have an extremely low mortality rate and disease rate there. This is known as the “grandmother” effect. This effect shows some connections between procreative success and longevity, as procreative success has proved to be successful in extending lifespans(longevity).  Age reversal: Real or Fake?  This Ted talk convinced me that age reversal is fake, however, that does not mean there aren’t things that could potentially make you live longer. Eating wisely, surrounding yourselves with family/your community, having a positive outlook, and staying active (“move naturally”) are perfect ways to help do that. You cannot reverse age, as we are not built to sustain 100 years old, we are built to reproduce and promote...
