Abstract
What do you think about racial discrimination in the United States? What do you think about racism in the United States? for many years, I have always had an interest in studying the concept of racial discrimination. Every day I hear complaints of segregation of the people of color, which puts me in this unknown aspect. The concept of racial discrimination is broad and entails a lot of controversies. Various authors have different opinions on the concept of racial discrimination. How many white people have the police killed in the United States? the numbers do not compare to what we hear daily in the news. I believe by this analogy that there exists discrimination of the minority groups. This concept of discrimination has put me under pressure to research the upcoming issues concerning this analogy. The various perspectives voiced out in my sources include; how ethnic-racial socialization shapes racial discrimination, health crisis due to racial discrimination, the prevalence of racial discrimination, the reckoning of histories of medical history and violence, and the sociology of discrimination. My sources on these topics include articles from PubMed and journals on experimentation and survey. On the issue of George Floyd, the police operation in Minnesota puts me in a dilemma on structural racism. Racist police violence indicates racist discrimination in the US. Being black is prone to susceptibility to criminal allegations. I have had friends who have been stopped on the road because of driving a smart car and questioned. The marginalized are put down in society by the place. This has led me to gunner information from various sources on the linkage between race crime and discrimination. The history of the United States with racism is undying, and every day flourishes with new stories. I have witnessed anti-racism protests and the killing of people of color for no reason. Social discrimination is prevalent in American society. My source alludes that employment is attributed to race and inequality; the minority are segregated from good housing and discriminated against accessing justice. When imprisoned, their Ids are attached to their criminal record, and they cannot work to serve their needs in society. This puts them to engage in criminal activities and immorality in society. Racial discrimination contributes to the immorality of young individuals. Other sources refute the claim on the existence of racial discrimination on a major scale. Causadias and Kevin acknowledge racial discrimination but allude that it is least and can hardly be felt. They argue that information concerning racial discrimination is exaggerated and falsified—my findings on different sources in many of them. I believe someday we will live in a society that celebrates each other regardless the race, and human dignity will be upheld. The United States is the mirror of the world and should polish its wrongdoings for the world to emulate. There is a necessity to sensitize this topic to avoid its negative implications, which immensely influence society. Racism can lead to crime since the vulnerable groups suffer identity issues and low self-esteem. Seeking a solution provides a lasting impact on racism in society and is deemed to inspire a generation of men who will uphold dignity and humanity and embrace equality. Annotated Bibliographies Burt, Callie Harbin et al. “Racial Discrimination, Ethnic-Racial Socialization, and Crime: A Micro-sociological Model of Risk and Resilience.” American sociological review vol. 77,4 (2012): 648-677. doi:10.1177/[phone]448648 The authors allude that racial discrimination continues to negatively impact the lives of the minority groups in the United States. African Americans are deemed susceptible to crime compared to other minority groups. This journal alludes to that there is a linkage between race, discrimination, and crime. It ascertains that based on discrimination, African American children are battling self-esteem issues and identity issues since they are painted criminals in the eyes of society. The research is educative and highlights prejudice of African Americans as dangerous to children of the minority in a racist society. The authors suggest that African Americans are likely to encounter racism in their lives, and therefore parenting should be exclusive when it comes to preparation of bias. This source is credible in its findings with articulate findings. However, the research is limited in that the sample was collected from communities of Georgia and Lowa, thus does not signify a national survey. It also uses the perceptual measure of discrimination which can be perceived as void. Further research needs to be done to understand how Ethnic Racial Socialization (ERS) shapes racial discrimination. Causadias, José M., and Kevin M. Korous. "Racial discrimination in the United States: a national health crisis that demands a national health solution." Journal of Adolescent Health 2 (2019): 147-148 Causadias and Kevin have examined racial discrimination as a significant factor contributing to poor health among ethnic/racial minority groups. They allude that racism is rooted in the country, with the whites claiming white supremacy to subordinate minorities. Their research alludes that negative health consequences are linked to past experiences and acute psychological activity to discrimination among black adolescents. The researchers conclude that racial discrimination is a prevalent issue in the United States, and discrimination is linked to race, ethnicity, and ancestry. The research is biased since it is not inclusive. Individuals that were included in the survey are adolescents and young adults. Information provided is not sufficient to educate the public and make them believe in the prevalence of racial discrimination. This journal has acknowledged the insufficiency of the research since the debate on race is often resistant to evidence. There is a need to create awareness and sensitization on the issue of race as a health hazard. Lee, Randy T, et al. “On the prevalence of racial discrimination in the United States.” PloS one vol. 14,1 e0210698. 10 Jan. 2019, doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0210698 The authors of this journal have interpreted...
