Course name Instructor’s name Assignment due date Module 2: Curriculum and Project Approach Teachers face challenges providing choices to children in the project approach since learners have diverse abilities and limitations. In addition to allowing students to define the learning process, teachers have to ensure that learning is developmentally appropriate for all students. This is often difficult in a classroom where students differ in abilities in different subjects (Chard, 2016). Additionally, teachers have to balance the curriculum development with the freedom they provide their students. Achieving such a structure is challenging since too little or too much freedom can make the project approach ineffective. Vygotsky’s zone of primal development defines the interaction between what children can do on their own and what they can achieve with the support of an adult such as a teacher. It guides the extent of choices that teachers offer preprimary students and how they intervene when students face difficulties (Vu Huy Tran, 2022). Children in the project approach benefit from the social learning environment that provides some degree of freedom in how they learn. The national and state standards for learning should accommodate the need for such freedom to govern learning in the classroom. Piaget’s areas of knowledge promote active and constructive learning where children are involved in their education. Rather than providing information, the project approach offers students the opportunity to explore their physical and social environment during learning (Clements & Sarama, 2016).
