[Name] [University] 14 April 2024 Week 13 Essay: Research Results Research Question: What is the correlation between Problematic social media use and stress amongst youths? Results The current study aimed at establishing the relationship between problematic social media use and stress amongst youths. Undergraduate student below the age of 35 years served as the primary sample where random sampling consolidated over 200 participants whose experience with social media remained defined. While using Undergraduate Stress Questionnaires (USQ) to measure the dependent variable (stress), Social Media Addiction Scale to measure social media addiction (independent variable) and Pearson’s correlation coefficient to measure the strength of the relationship between problematic social media use and stress amongst youth, the results should indicate whether there is a any connection between unethical social media use and stress amongst youth or vice-versa. Uncontrolled exposure to social media may prove a stressing effect to many participants as expressed through a close analysis of their responses with a higher level of uncontrolled media use corresponding to higher levels of stress to the sample or vice versa. Consideration of the narrative responses from the sample will offer clear insights in response to the question of study as these responses will be based on real-live experiences. The main theme will be in response to participant responses which in this case may indicate a strong connection between the two variables or vice versa. Discussion If study hypothesized that problematic social media use triggers stress amongst youths. As hypothesized the results of the study concluded that there is a strong connection between unethical social media use and stress amongst youths attributed to their limited controls over how and when to use the social media platforms. While defining youths as a population under a strong influence of the advancing technology, the study concluded that their uncontrolled media use leads to their addictions in social media use triggering stress as these youth yearn to use these platforms ignoring other activities of relevance in their lives.
