Abstract

Module 3.1 Assignment: Emotional Mindfulness of LEOs Describe the role of mental health of police officers job performance and everyday lives. Further describe the stigmatization that LEOs face when seeking mental health counselling and whether their mental health have adverse conditions in the community? Mental health is a basic human right that is very crucial to personal, socio-economic and community development. To this effect, police officer is not an exception to this human right as also a human being. Since LEOs work is demanding and exposes them to psychological and emotional torture, there is the need for a well maintained mental health as this will play a crucial role in their overall performance and everyday lives (Stogner, Miller & McLean, 2020). While analysing job performance, mental health affects an officer’s performance such that with proper mental health such an officer can make sound judgments in any situation and vice versa. Unfortunately, with poor decisions attributed to poor mental health, the officer can cause harm to self and community at large which will yield more problems than good. Emotional resilience is another area that directly concerns mental health. LEOs with proper mental health remains fully equipped to handle any emotional challenge at work and their normal lives. This means that they are also able to enhance their workplace relationships and personal well-being. For instance they understand how to manage stress in case of exposures to a traumatic incident which proves normal within their professional lane and are able to maintain an emotional stability even away from their work. They do not find the need for a burnout in case of such exposures or the need to hate, despise or eliminate themselves and families in case of a stressing experience as expressed by most mentally unstable LEOs.
