Enhancing Student Test Performance Through Online Quizzes

Abstract

Assignment Three Scenario one experiment: Scenario A: A professor is interested in whether taking online quizzes over a chapter before discussing the chapter in class will improve students’ test performance. The professor is interested in examining the testing effect, the finding that taking a memory test not only assesses what one knows, but also enhances later retention. The professor hypothesizes that students who take chapter quizzes will score higher on the midterm exam than students who do not take chapter quizzes. Design and describe an experiment that could test this hypothesis. A professor designs online quizzes over a chapter before discussing the chapter in class and offer it to some of his students to analyze the testing effects the students would express in their test performance. The professor hypothesizes that those students who take the online quizzes prior to discussion will score higher than those who did not. 20 students, 10 male and 10 female participated in the exercise. The professor offered 5 female and 5 male students the online quizzes prior to the discussion and the rest 10 were not offered.
