MGMT 475.WB1 Fa 2022 STUDY GUIDE and Preview Note for Mid Term Examination EXAM TIME AND DATE: OPENS: 8 am 10/30 CLOSES: 11 pm 11/1 150 points 3 hour time limit READ CAREFULLY The following guide lists topics, concepts, analytical techniques, etc. that we have covered thus far in this course. Not every item is guaranteed to be addressed in the exam, but nothing on the exam will be a surprise topic. So, this is a good basis for studying. All elements of course content in Modules 1, 2, and 3 may be the sources of important information. That means, review and study the assigned readings, the assigned videos, the class session slides, and the feedback given on the case assignments related to those three modules. * Nothing about specific cases used so far is not included nor is anything related to the module on strategic CSR. The focus of the exam is on EXPLANATION and APPLICATION of these topics. Memorizing definitions will not be enough. You will have to demonstrate you understand and can apply what we have covered. Think about the methods we have used to describe a firm’s performance and strategy, identify and prioritize their sources of competitive advantage, and understand and explain the key success factors and drivers of change in their external environment. The format will include several multiple-choice questions and some short answer questions based on a mini case that will be provided within the exam. For these questions, you do not need to write lengthy answers; that is, you can use lists, words, bullet points, etc. where appropriate and sufficient to keep the time needed to a minimum. But the content of your answers, and my ability to understand what you mean, remains CRITICAL. You may ‘know it’ in your head, but you must demonstrate the ability to put it into appropriate words. Word choice and clarity matter! PROOFREAD and perform quality control. You may use all your course resources. I’d suggest using printed materials rather than bounce in and out of the exam on your computer screen – you do not want to lose your work or submit an incomplete exam! Stick to those materials from this course; doing Internet research during the exam period will be a horrible use of your time as it is unlikely to direct you to relevant help. In the past, I’ve seen answers pulled from other courses or some online resources and they are so far off from what we cover in this course. This exam is about the lessons in THIS course. Anything else gets a zero. I also remind you of the implications of violating the UB Academic Integrity Policy before the exam….or you can revisit them in the syllabus (hint – don’t even think about cheating, it isn’t worth it!!).
