Professional Speaker Critique Recollection Day Speech A recollection day is a period set aside for believers to go deeper into their relationship with God. During this time, one withdraws from all the world's treasures and opts to spend some quality time with God. Question One: The speaker was a Catholic Father from a different diocese from the one that hosted the recollection day. He is a catholic senior father. Senior Father in the sense that he has spent so many years spreading the gospel of Christ as a seminarian, deacon, a father/priest and currently a chaplain who leads the other fathers in the ways of delivering to their core mission. His role as a chaplain is to provide spiritual care for individuals in a non-religious organization which allows him to interact and engage with various people as attributed to his outspoken temperament. The speaker was very definite on the purpose of his presentation. He started his speech with greetings, and after introducing himself, he gave a brief overview of what recollection day was all about and why it was imperative to set some time for the big day. Choristers precisely attended the day, thus connecting the recollection day and the chorister's role to ensure they minister per their calling and talent. His credibility is not only defined by the fact that he is and has been a catholic priest for more than half of his age but instead for his vast knowledge in sociology, having acquired a masters degree in public relations. He was also a choir member during his seminarian, deacon and first five years of his priesthood. Question Two: The speaker delivered the speech inside one of the catholic churches. He was not tired of smiling and sharing his tenor voice strengths through some Old Catholic songs throughout his speech. Question Four: The speaker had written notes that he followed promptly in his presentation. The notes were typed and in a hardcopy which he referred to occasionally. He had a clear flow of content while delivering his text which implies that he had prepared for his presentation before starting it. The speaker used layman language that remained understandable by all the audiences throughout his speech. He expressed no signs of confusion or blankness even with a mere glance on his note that he left on the table as he walked here and there to ensure that he remained felt and heard. Question Five: Yes, the speakers’ introduction was very effective. The introduction was very catchy as the speaker defined the day’s topic and its relevance to choristers and related the topic to the daily lives of a choir member. He clearly defined himself and his credentials that defined his appropriateness in addressing the topic of his speech. He provided a brief outline of the content of his speech which gave the target audience the urge to remain glued until they get his last words. To get the audience's attention, the speaker used stories that he argued as real-life experience stories, which were inspiring and exciting to ignore. He also employed the joke strategies, which left many cracking bones, thus creating room for more urge to hear his speech. He has been a father for a long time, thus familiar with some of the choristers, thus calling out names of individuals to share a song with or even training them on Old Catholic moves, which made his speech exciting and worth listening to all times.
