Abstract
Plan to Address Different Student Issues A plan is a simple schedule on how to implement interventions in a given situation that serves as the most viable remedy to the noted concern. In the current case scenario, it is evident that the seven students have different characteristics that threaten their academic success, thus the need to source potential remedies that ethically address the noted student issue. A successful plan needs to have clear goals to enhance the flow of its content and logical justifications for any proposed intervention. The current scenario demands simple interventions to address each student's noted concern. It is a plan that aims at enhancing good morals and shape students' character to fit into their academic life. As a teacher, the most viable resources at hand to address the students' issues are the teaching expertise, knowledge, skills, and experience with the noted students. Felipe M's case defines the boy as a threat to other students not because he is naughty or a bully but because he is too big to be in fifth grade, having confirmed his age as 18 months older than all other students in the class. Reports from classmate girls indicate that they are afraid of Felipe attributed to his bigness. Such fears can negatively affect Felipe academic performance upon realizing that his classmates do not accept him as one of their own. Felipe can isolate himself to enjoy peace of mind which can have adverse psychological effects in the long run. In order to ensure the other classmates accept Felipe as one of their own, it is imperative to foster social interactions among students throughout their learning and a topic on acceptance once a week. Social interactions in the classroom may happen through cooperative learning activities whereby the students engage in group discussion activities and play experiences to increase positive social interactions between all fifth group students. During these cooperative social learnings, all fifth group learners will develop attitudes of acceptance and start seeing Felipe from the fifth-grade student perspective, which will positively impact every student's attitude towards academics. There is also the need for a one-on-one discussion with the learners on the importance of accepting and embracing each other regardless of age, gender or race. Through such a topic, the learners will understand that it is not a crime to be aged or bigger than others, thus accepting Felipe without critiquing his size or seeing him as a threat to their peace. Within a short period, these fifth-grade learners will change their perception of Felipe, impacting his social life positively and enhancing his academic performance. Thuy T (Annie) has expressed problems with self-esteem which can have adverse effects on her social interactions with the teachers and, if not addressed, will translate to her interaction with her fellow students. As Annie’s record indicates, the student has acquired skills in English speaking from a US military base before joining her current school but lacks the confidence to express herself in English, though well reflected in her written work. Such a student requires an approach that will boost her self-esteem to express her abilities without fear of being critiqued or laughed at by fellow students. For this reason, the teacher must first have a personal encounter with Annie to win her trust so that the girl can speak up and explain her fears to the teacher. Maybe Annie learned English but is still unsure how to express herself based on her accent and her experience with other students in her class who might be very fluent in English or bilingual. Another strategy is for the teacher to increase the self of ownership through training students on acceptance of one’s language and employment of different languages in class together with English for all students to enjoy a sense of belonging. Obviously, English is not a mother tongue for all students; thus, the need to promote purposeful multilingual to enable Annie to feel that English is not the only language in teaching, thus finding enough reasons to come up straight using English. It is also imperative to train students on the importance of understanding and using proper English while addressing their issues in academic-related environments, as English plays a major role in communication in most areas of life. One can define Heather, Michael, and Jimmy as students who possess negative behavior. While three of them, the students are uncontrollable and very different from what the class is doing. However, in Heather's absence, the other two boys are quite docile and a little indifferent to what the class is doing. What does that mean? It means that Heather has great control of the group, meaning he might be the spoilt brat whose company destroys the good morals of the other two boys. In order to enhance positive behaviors among the three boys, it is imperative to set clear rules and the limits and provide clear expectations that each student must adhere to in the classroom and while relating with each other. Punishment and motivation should serve as the main rewards for adherence to or breaking the set rules. In such a scenario, some...
