Abstract

African-centered pedagogy Analysis African American population has for the longest time become subject to inequalities in areas of relevance to human life. Education, job opportunities, and health care services, to mention a few, serve as the major areas that the African American population experience unequal treatment compared to white Americans. Paying close attention to education, it is evident that the white children enjoy quality education as compared to the African America Children, who in most cases are given low quality to no chances of becoming educated. For this reason, the need for an effective pedagogy that equips teachers with suitable approaches and measures while teaching African American children is the key to enhancing and ensuring quality education for all African American children at all times. Murrell Jr (2002) defines an effective pedagogy for educating African American Children as a pedagogy that “should provide teachers with a unifying framework for how they are to apply understanding of human cognition, learning, and development.” With such a definition, one can argue that an effective learning system should ensure quality education for all regardless of race, color, ethnicity culture, among other factors. Being an African American child does not imply that one is inferior or should not be entitled to privileges like quality education to allow for a brighter future. Based on Murrell Jr (2002), it is clear that quality education serves as a strong pillar for a successful future for the African American population. For this reason, the need to amend the current African-Centered Pedagogy employed in educating African American children is the key to attaining the best approaches of handling and equipping such a population with a quality education that can be of relevance in their lives.
