Abstract

Rhetorical Analysis on White Privilege Shapes United States It is quite evident that white supremacy is a dominating power that outstandingly defines white privilege. Unlike ethnicity, a broad approach to identifying humans, race is a narrow identifier primarily coined around skin colour as the most pressing physical characteristic that categorizes people of colour from the Whites. Being white entitles such a race to the earned and un-earned privileges, which best define why white people start their lives as racist regardless of their knowledge or no knowledge about it. Based on Jensen (1998), it is clear that contrary to the expectations, some of these white privileges serve as pain to this great race. For this reason, the essay will offer a detailed analysis of guilt, anger and fears, which helps as three emotional reactions of the whites towards white privilege and racism. As argued by Jensen (1998), anger, fear and guilt best explain why being white exposes this race to adverse effects contrary to what the people of colour think while analyzing the white race. Based on Jensen (1998), it is evident that ever since time immemorial, white privilege has always been associated with the beneficial treatments that white people receive over the non-white population, most especially in the United States of America. Since America embraces white supremacy, a white person will look at the other white person from his/her reflection, which defines the whites' advantage as they live in the racist world. The blacks/people of colour are always depicted as threatening since the white race remain well-represented amongst American society. As argued by Jensen (1998), such a notion defines the emotional reaction of fear amongst them while relating to the other races within the United States.
