Abstract

Question and Answer Assignment Identity Crisis: Chapter 5 "Hiding in Plain Site" means that one is viewing or hearing the truth without any major efforts though the truth seems slightly hidden from time to time. In this chapter, Donald Trump's announcement of his candidacy came along with a powerful speech that discouraged the accommodation of Mexican immigrants into American soil. Though Trump's speech, in a way, seem to advocate for the safety of America as a nation and its citizens, his racists' approach and negative attitude towards immigrants is well hidden within his speech though can easily be detected β€œwhen Mexico sends its people, they are not sending their best, they are sending people that have lots of problem ad bringing those problems with us (Sides, Tesler and Vavreck, 2019)." One can argue that Trumps' supporters support less immigration as attributed to their presidential candidate's explanation of the dangers associated with embracing bad immigrants who transfer their problems to the American populace upon their migration into the American soil. Trump emphasizes that immigrants are sent from many bad people to transform America into a useless nation full of drug traffickers, abductors, and poor people, among other persons whose existence in America proves a threat to its super economy. Trump made his voters believe that the blacks, Muslims, among other immigrants were less relevant to the economy as his white supremacist notion remained well defined throughout his campaign. He advocated for defined respect for the whites, which made his white supporters cling so much to him. Muslims were viewed as people of war whose existence in America would account for more loss than benefits. Economic issues prove a potential factor that unites people during any form of election.
