Abstract

Reflection: Lisa Delpit’s book Multiplication is for the White Lisa Delpit is an outspoken woman raised during the Jim Crow Era, where racial segregation was at its epitome. Her experiences on the treatment of African Americans were a motivation for her to become a prolific writer and a fighter of equality and justice for African Americans. she studied to become a teacher to become a force in the education sector. Her works focused on teaching and learning in culturally diverse areas and urban learning. Lisa claims that multiplication is for white people. This statement is intuitive; it reflects the persistent gap between the people of color and whites. The blacks are not progressing due to the education reforms that are suppressing them; hence there is a need for a pedagogy that integrates culture and earning. Just like Lisa alludes, there is no achievement gap at birth. Our children are born clean, and infant development is attributed to what we feed our children. The fact that black children are more treacherous than whites seems a pretty typical analogy but stirs prejudice in schools. The teachers can be a significant influence in shaping the perception and lives of African Americans. Gelling African American teachers and whites can be a stepping stone in creating a pedagogy alienated from discrimination. Our children need a curriculum that connects with their intuitions, cultures, and interests in promoting equality. There exist principles that raise the expectations of students. Lisa believes in uplifting the African American children to pursue their dreams just like the white counterparts. Our children need support while earning, and teachers should embrace learning that accommodates children’s differences. The community has a significant role in schools. What is taught in school should be enacted in the community to create successful learning. An effective strategy to achieve this is incorporating African American literature...
