Abstract

CRJU 304 Midterm Exam You must answer two prompts. You can choose any of the prompts below to respond to. NO extra points will be given for additional prompts being answered. Each response should be written as a short (2-4 page) paper (i.e., it must flow and introduce and conclude the argument/discussion). All responses must be typed in 12pt Times New Roman font and double-spaced. Properly use headings, quotations, citations, and references as per APA formatting. Your prompt responses should be on separate pages (as if a new paper). Include only one reference list for both prompts. Your responses will be graded on (1) addressing ALL parts of the prompt; (2) response accuracy; (3) response thoroughness (it is a take-home exam); (4) writing mechanics (e.g., comma usage, sentence structure, etc.); (6) APA citing/formatting. Up to five points will be deducted for incorrect APA citations. Up to five points will be deducted for poor writing mechanics and disorganization. Your responses need to thoroughly discuss the tenets of the theory, relevant theorists, strengths and limitations of the theories, and empirical support. It may be necessary to include the ethical implications of the theories you discuss. The goal of this midterm is to demonstrate your expertise of the materials learned throughout the semester and to determine attainment of the course learning objectives (1-6). Outside research is strongly discouraged. Solely rely on your readings, notes, videos, podcasts, and activities. Title each response with the prompt number you are responding to. Please upload your responses to the Canvas assignment Dropbox by the deadline indicated on the syllabus. Choose one theory that would advocate for mass incarceration and one theory that would advocate for a different crime control response. In your discussion: Explain the tenets of each theory (5 pts for each theory), Discuss relevant theorists (4 pts), Consider the strengths and limitations of each theory (6 pts). Based on this discussion, discuss...
