Abstract
CAR 202 Power Statement Practice What is a Power Statement? The details that illustrate your achievements and capabilities in action oriented, quantifiable language. This is the place where you can highlight the skills you have developed and the impact you have made through various work experiences and extra curricular engagements that directly demonstrate your ability to do a job. Remember that you will want your skills and experience to meet the needs of a prospective employer! How do I write a Power Statement? Action (verb) + Outcome/task + data (to illustrate/measure outcome) Example. Created fundraising campaign, organizing almost 200 high school students to raise $4,5000 to support camp scholarships for 5 low-income Chicago youth. *From this example we can see that not only did the student create a fundraising campaign, but we know how many people she organized, how much money she raised, and how many people the money served. Part I. Power Statement Practice- Directions: Select three experiences or activities where you developed important professional skills like teamwork, communication, problem solving etc. (These could be part-time jobs, volunteer opportunities, club memberships, etc.) For each experience or position, create two power statements to illustrate what you achieved in that role. Follow the Action + Outcome + Data model. (Note: on your actual resume you will want at least 3 bullets for each listed entry). Experience 1: (Experience name/role) ___________________________________ Power Statement 1: Power Statement 2: Experience 2: (Experience name/role) ___________________________________ Power Statement 1: Power Statement 2: Experience 3: (Experience name/role) ___________________________________ Power Statement 1: Power Statement 2: Note: For additional support in writing strong power statements for your resume, visit Resume Writing Power Statements (from Year Up)
