Abstract
Death Competence and Self Care Dying, death, and bereavement are very emotional events, and one needs abilities and skills to confront them. Death competence is an ideal construct representing capabilities, and abilities specialized in managing, engaging, and tolerating clients glued in grief. It is an ethical practice in grief counseling. Many people are often caught in the adversity of making funeral arrangements and ensuring that their loved ones get a decent burial. They are left wondering since they do not have time to grieve. Death competence is a vital skill in enhancing death education. Grief is a detrimental stage in individual life, and it may be overwhelming for the grieving to need attention to help them manage their losses. Death competence offers palliative care to the vulnerable during loss. It helps victims deal with death anxiety and terminally ill persons. Grief is the lowest moment in a person's life, and death is traumatizing; hence we need to take care of ourselves. We can do this by spending time with others to stabilize emotions, accept the loss and take time to heal, listen to our body, for instance, the urge to cry, talk to someone, or sleep, and refrain from pressure and calm, you can’t achieve much after the loss. My self-care plan during grieving satisfies my emotional, physical, and mental needs. Physically I will need to take more time in walking, going shopping and pampering myself, eating a healthy and balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and talking to my best friend. I will also engage intense workouts indoors, refraining from bad habits such as binge eating, drinking too much, and excessive use of social media.
