Abstract
The Adversity of Climate Change The concept of climate change is a defining subject in our time. According to (Craig 9), climate change has occurred for as long as the earth has existed. it is a dynamic problem and many changes are anticipated from generation to generation. Human beings and wild animals experience the adversity of climate change periodically affecting their survival. Human beings are comfortable with the normal range of climatic conditions, but it becomes a problem when extremes are manifested. The impacts f climate change and adverse since it threatens food production can cause loss of property and disrupts the normal function of society through natural disasters, the spread of diseases and infections, and environmental degradation. Climate change disrupts the enjoyment of human rights such as sanitation, water, food, health, and housing. this discussion will focus on the causes of climate change and its solutions. The subject of climate change is debatable among many researchers some find it a serious problem while others perceive it as a mere fact. According to (Patz et al. 1566), “About half of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions between 1750 and 2010 occurred since 1970.” Climate change is one of the greatest problems facing humanity and without action today, the future is doomed. This menace threatens lives in a visible or an invisible way. there are various factors that are linked to climate change which include, a rise in temperatures, droughts, flooding, the outbreak of insects, warming of oceans, rise in sea levels, and melting of glaciers. Climate change affects the health of individuals due to the release of acid water which causes various types of cancers. Direct radiations from the sun due to the destruction of the ozone layer heighten temperatures, becoming a threat to living things. The American Association for the Advancement of Science asserts that climate change is a global threat caused by human activities (Karl et al). Climate change is caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Manufacturing companies and power plants produce energy by burning fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are burnt, it releases huge amounts of carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. Fossil fuels are formed from the decomposition of deal organisms buried millions of years ago and these deposits can be extracted and burned for energy. They are unrenewable and include oil, gas, and coal. Oil and coal are the dirtiest fuels and contribute to environmental degradation. power and transportation account for three-quarters of carbon emissions. Carbon emissions trap heat in the atmosphere contributing to global warming. The emissions of fossil fuels contribute to global warming. There is a solution to this is to curb climate change caused by fossil fuels. According to(Howard and Hutson 116) a Canadian strategy alludes to that solution to climate change includes” pricing carbon pollution; complementary actions to reduce emissions across all sectors; adaptation and resilience; and clean technology, innovation, and jobs.” Renewable energy is a necessity in ensuring a safe and clean environment. This entails technologies such as solar, geothermal power, wind, wave, and tidal energies. The Proposition of sustainable transport, for instance, electric vehicles will be of much significance in reducing climate change and reducing air pollution. According to (Bein et. 485),” In the last five decades, human activities have resulted in the release of increasing quantities of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, thus contributing to global climate change by additional heating of the atmosphere.” Human activities such as deforestation and agriculture contribute to climate change. The Cutting down of trees increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Trees take in carbon dioxide hence when cutting down limits nature’s ability to hold the emissions. Plating of crops and rearing of livestock releases many forms of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Nitrous oxide found in fertilizers is a powerful greenhouse gas compared to carbon dioxide. The greenhouse gases cause the greenhouse effect causing global warming. Restoring nature to absorb carbon dioxide is a necessity in preventing climate change. this is done through the planting of trees and conservation of forests like the amazon (Lewis et al. 26 Trees provide a...
