Abstract

PERSONAL STATEMENT I believe social work is the most rewarding and satisfying career anyone can pursue. I am privileged to be part of a community that upholds human wellbeing. The progress is extraordinarily wonderful, a career when human values and social justice is upheld, service to the community is a priority, and diversity is their pillar. I am an empathetic, honest, just, and passionate person. My intuition believes that I am destined for the service of the community. I enjoy every aspect of social work in my schooling. I wish I could transform this knowledge into reality. Social work entails meeting the vulnerable at their complex needs, in their oppression or poverty. Schooling as a social work student is very interesting. I have had to exercise my profession in reaching out to vulnerable students at their emotional and social needs. I am privileged to be part of the guidance and counseling community and learn from experiences from my peers. The support is overwhelming and the knowledge base is adverse. Together with my peers doing social work, we have had a platform to discuss and identify factors that inhibit learning. This is the beauty of social work since it applies to every aspect of society. Social work makes me think outside the box since this field is diverse. There are many tenets of social work and I think I have something that interests me. Social workers help people of every age and background improve their quality of life. I have an interest in the field of child welfare. The service of children is a necessity in promoting a healthy future generation. I have worked as a unit clerk at Uncoln Park Care Center, and in this position, I met patients with various vulnerabilities. This opportunity made me realize how emotional, self-made and strong I was amid the vulnerable. Children struck my attention and my passion and interest in child welfare emanated from this. I realized I love children and I have the heart to serve them. My personal experience as a child defines most things today since it impacted my wellbeing. I felt like my parents didn’t give me much attention and love compared to other children. My heart yearned to be loved, recognized, and valued due to the feelings of neglect and tormented me. It was a striking issue and no one realized that it was eating away my self-esteem. I understand this feeling and I am conversant that many children face the same issues. Some are physically and mentally abused, and their end is disastrous, and they end up not fulfilling their dreams. I want to sensitize the community on children's welfare to yield a better society. I possess professional qualities and skills such as professional commitment, empathy, resilience, and realistic expectations about my field of work. Dealing with children is a delicate task that requires a soft heart of love and tenderness. My heart is at ease in the service of this group. Working with kids requires resilience and patience, and this is the professionalism I have mastered during my work experience at Tropical Juice Bar and Uncoln. I have had many people say to me that I am an empathetic person and I would work best as a social worker. Listening to my friends, family, and outsiders, I have affirmed this virtue and I possess it. I am one person who sets realistic goals and strives to achieve them. This attribute pushes me to work smart in what I am passionate about. I want a future where children are proud of themselves and their achievements due to a solid foundation. The daily responsibilities of child welfare social workers may be challenging. The complexity of issues children face is huge, and one difficult task is dealing with children in separated families when there are conflicts of interest among the children and parents, child court and family issues. Highly conflicting families pause a difficulty in deciding on a child’s financial support and place of residence which can be very exhausting to a social worker. The process of confrontation often alludes to distrust, hostility, and anger, and these are trying moments for...
