Abstract

Sexual fluidity vs. Sexual Orientation Sexual fluidity is a change that happens to someone’s sexuality or sexual identity. In other words, sexual fluidity can be termed as a change that could occur as far as sexuality is concerned. The change could occur over time, which could also be determined by situations (Diamond et al., 2020). For instance, someone who identifies themselves as being straight could find themselves developing attractions to same-sex people. They may not act on the interests, but the point remains that they felt attraction. On the other hand, sexual orientation is a pattern of emotional, romantic, and sexual attraction that people experience to other people, especially of a particular gender. It is a person’s sense of identity and personal feelings towards sexuality (Diamond et al., 2020). Society inclusivity There have been cultural and social acceptance of diverse identities, and there has been growing support for the philosophy of equity. Through equity, there has been an assurance of access to the same opportunities regardless of their sexuality and cultural and personal characteristics. In general, more academic places have increased diversity and worked on social acceptance. But on the flip side, despite the growth of equity policies, there is still discrimination and harassment on sexual orientation and gender identity. Regardless of the assimilation of people with different gender identities, the representation is still way below the exceptions (Ventriglio Bhugrand, 2019). Labels of sexual attraction Sexual orientation has come a long way. In the contemporary world, people are using a list of labels to describe their sexual orientation. A couple of years ago, society defined sexuality as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or straight. As time went by, the acronym LGBTQ grew from the umbrella gay (Ventriglio and Bhugra, 2019).
