Abstract
For this annotation, you will contextualize and summarize a full-length book. Remember that you are required to choose a non-fiction book that is no more than ten years old. Reading and summarizing an entire book can seem overwhelming. While it may be tempting to rely on the book jacket or an online description, the introduction/preface is the most useful point of entry into the book's argument. Also, don't ignore the endnotes or footnotes as you attempt to identify the kairos and exigency of the book: they often hold valuable clues to the conversation the author is participating in. To help you understand college standards for research and summary, we are providing a rubric below with questions to guide your work. This rubric has a fine level of detail to help you break down the research, reading, and writing skills that will help you succeed on your college-level annotated bibliography. Tip: Sometimes when students feel time pressured they are tempted to cheat by reproducing the book jacket description or Amazon review as their own work. Remember that plagiarism can result in an F on the entire assignment--it's better to leave off an entry than to fail the whole thing. This annotated bibliography will be due April 8. You have been given extra time with this assignment since you have to read a book. Rubric HS_Annotated Bibliography_BK
