Abstract

[University] Early Childhood Education [Instructor Name] [Name] [Name] August 13th ,2023 I was unable to complete an in-person observation for this specific assignment, but the video I watched was 5-year-olds Pilot Their Own Project Learning. I would say the experience of doing this observation in person is different, not the same as I reflect and compare to in-person observations I have done previously. The video begins by showing students and staff at an event; everyone is all smiles and enthusiastic about what their day has in store. Toward the beginning of the video (0:55-1:09), it mentioned how their lifelong learning exploration for young learners couldn't begin too soon and how mainly instruction is taught in long-term projects as a class. The video goes on to say how the projects are created based on the interest and curiosity of the young learners. Then as a class, they agree on a theme, and their teachers provide resources and tools to succeed in completing the project to focus their efforts. At marker 3:05 in the video, there was another point highlighting how their everyday events can make for engaging projects; this can easily happen when young learners are guided by their teacher. The teacher then goes on to express how she was able to cover so many subjects from the curriculum because she intentionally designed her lessons with a purpose that allowed her students to be engaged, interact with peers, and be involved. Students want to learn more and attend school because it's authentic (3:54). The teacher sharing her story of incorporating STEM practices within her curriculum shows why STEM is effective and why younger learners shouldn't be strayed away from learning math and sciences at a young age. In what ways does incorporating STEM curriculum / Project Based Learning curriculum foster ingenuity and creativity? Integrating STEM/ project-based activities into the curriculum nurtures ingenuity and creativity in multiple aspects. Firstly, students are encouraged and motivated to think critically and expand their thinking by exploring solutions to real-world problems.
