[[Instructor Name]] [Instructor Name] [Instructor Name] Week 7 assignment: Final Application Paper Introduction Social interactions are essential as they give life a certain taste and meaning eliminating loneliness and boredom that comes along with being a loner. However, the way people interact defines the nature of experiences that one acquires as attributed to social interactions influence that defines conformity and obedience amongst members. These social influences may impact those interacting positively or negatively thus the need to remain cautious within social groups. Family life is among the major aspects of life that I spend most of my time and engage in a lot of social interactions. By family life I mean as much as I engage in social interactions within other aspects like social groups from religion and peers as well as in workplace context, I tend to spend most of my time with family members ranging from nuclear to my large extended family. Having spent most of my social interacting moments within family context, there are a variety of behaviors that have become a norm during our interactions from me and other members of the family. These behaviors range from communication, mealtime manners, house chore efforts, among other shared traditions like storytelling, cultural practices among other behaviors that foster the sense of unity and belonging. Communication is the key in our family life interactions. Family members engage in various conversations where we discuss different activities, share ideas and express or thoughts and feelings towards each other. However the way we communicate differs based on our intro and extroversions. Mealtime behaviors have embraced conformity and obedience attributed to the groups influence on embraced traditions that demands us to sit in a round table and share our meals without interruptions. House chores calls for a strict timetable where each member understands what is expected of him or her during specific day and time. Most of these chores range from cooking, washing utensils and attending our pets. Shared traditions are a well-respected behavior that each member aims at offering its best and with the extroverts; the storytelling becomes part and parcel of our everyday behavior in any family gathering. Having identified a number of my everyday behaviors during family life social interactions, this essay will go deeper into analyzing how such behaviors aligns with conformity and obedience concepts as well as how they help me understand my personal identity through the lens of self-concept. Based on Asch’s concept, conformity within a family or any group set-up may become defined by opinions and behaviors of some family members (McLeod, 2008). The pressures of such opinions and behaviors may influence the rest of the family members forcing conformity regardless of the effect that the two might have on the members. While paying close attention on communication as a regular behavior within my family life social interaction, I can attest that certain forces within a group dictate conformity even in how my family members converse with each other. I am an extrovert and not all my family members are extroverted. However, the fact that we spend most of our times together has forced the introverts amongst our family members to try their best to remain engaging during our interactions rest they feel out of place. I noted one of my younger cousin starting a very interesting debate just a few days ago during an extended family gathering without shying and that is when I realized that extroversion can affects the shyness in introverts and make them talk even when least expected. Other introverts within our family are following suit to ensure that they do not become a bother during our interactions. House chore collaborative efforts have also embraced conformity as no one wish to divert from the obvious. Although at times no one feels like attending to these chores especially the bit of cooking, other members of the family group who attend to this duty makes one feel guilty of ignoring the set chore as per the timetable. Conforming to these house chores does not come from heart but as a default force that pressure each member to conform to fit in our family line responsibilities. It is a behaviour that has enhanced differences in most instances when some of us try to keep off from such responsibilities only to find no way out than to give in and do as the rest does to fit in these family circles. Meal time, attending cultural holidays, wearing certain attires and observing some meals are behaviors I can associate with obedience of some shared traditions that our family lineage takes as a treasure and transfers them from one generation to the other.
