Transforming African-American Education: Embracing a New Pedagogy for Student Success

Abstract

African-Centered Pedagogy Developing schools of achievement is essential for the growing population of African American Children. Based on Murrell Jr. (2002), the current African-Centered Pedagogy employed in teaching the African-American children does not express schools of achievements to the demanding population. On the contrary, the pedagogy defines schools as restricted areas that demand conformity, are coerced, and full of control. Such a definition explains the rising cases of burn-outs amongst the study population from such places to enjoy their freedom in more habitable areas, exposing African-American children to leading a very desperate low-quality life in the future. According to Murrell Jr. (2002), an effective pedagogy for educating African-American children should “provide teachers with a unifying framework for how they are to apply to understand of human cognition, learning, and development." By employing such an approach in educating the study population, these children can feel the necessities of education, which will enhance their interest in the same. The white supremacist within America subjects the Whites to enjoying quality education, health care, better jobs, and open employment opportunities, among other privileges that define a habitable healthy life for the Whites. On the other hand, African-American origin is coined around the inferior stereotype having their roots in slavery as their welcoming note in the American soils. The stereotype remains defined in all the African-American population human rights, with education being severely affected. As argued by Murrell Jr. (2002), African-American children are exposed to low-quality education and, in severe cases, to no education. Unlike their White counterparts who enjoy quality education and habitable education institutions that inspire creativity, the African-American children are exposed to inhabitable education institutions that demand conformity of harsh rules and low-quality education, which adversely impacts such population attitudes education.
