Most adolescents report they like their parents/caregivers, and researchers have suggested that most adolescents closely reflect the social, political, and religious values of their parents. Discuss and reflect on similarities and differences between your own attitudes and lifestyles and those of your parents/caregivers (or compare your view with your own adolescent or adult children). Some areas might include: religious values, career choices, political attitudes and party affiliations, educational values, hobbies and use of leisure time, money and budget matters, and sexual issues. Week 5 Journal This week you were introduced to many changes that occur during the adolescent period. As there are many changes that occur physically, you may want to map areas of puberty changes. Another area that should be considered is the cognitive development and addressing Piaget’s theory. James Marcia identity theory is another area you may want to include as this is an important area within adolescence and their development of who they are.
