CASE STUDY WHS 404 Hazard Identification at Workplace Hazard Harm caused How harm is caused Physical hazard (Clutter and spill) Injuries attributed to falling, tripping among others When the surface is untidy and fluid spillage is present, chances of workers falling or being hit while walking or working is defined. Housekeeping procedure though ignored in most workplace serves as the most effective remedy to this type of hazard Physical hazard (Poor manual handling) Injuries (back and shoulders injuries) Poor manual handling is a source of workplace injury associated with poor lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing and pulling products incorrectly at workplace. Ignoring the use of machineries like forklift to lift heavy items at workplace. Environmental hazard (poor lighting and excessive noise) Permanent hearing problems, Eye strains and headaches Exposure to repetitive noise within the workplace can cause permanent hearing problems on the worker. Also exposure to insufficient lighting or repetitive glare on the same can lead to headaches attributed to eyestrains. Irritations may also be experienced upon exposure to such poor lighting. Chemical and biological hazards(Exposed cleaning agents) Respiratory irritations, abrupt severe eye damage among others Exposure to concentrated or less concentrated hazardous chemicals expose the person to severe damages and irritations in various parts of the body Mechanical hazards (operating tools not safely handled) Injuries The tool can cut, tear, crush or produce projectiles and injure/paralyze the victim Considering the types of hazards identified using the walk through, it becomes evident that workers will be exposed to various levels of risk within the workplace. In all categories of hazards identified and associated harms, one can confirm that the workers are exposed to high level risks since the likelihood of someone getting hurt is very likely.
