Abstract
EXAMPLE SUMMARY A biographical profile of women in management Place (1979) article elucidates how creating a biographical profile of women in in management by categorizing their past adolescent performance is usually a determining factor or indicator of their potential success in the business world. The hypothesis is that the biographical profile would aid in identifying female managerial talent early enough to encourage access to the appropriate business administration fields. The subjects for this study were one hundred and thirty (130) New Zealand businesswomen who were mostly between the ages of 40 and 49, whom held significant positions in policy and decision-making functions, including having responsibility for staff in business and government departments. The sixty-two (62) item questionnaire design was administered to the sample to identify a pattern of female managerial interests and life history, as well as fifteen (15) items related to the organizational characteristics of present employment. A frequency distribution of responses was represented by a table, revealed shared characteristics of the subjects. A varimax loading of factors such as self-confidence, social conformity, competence, socio-economic status, financial control, task competence, managerial status, and work choice were also included. The results revealed that early identification of managerial aptitude from the biographic predictors, followed by appropriate education in a business administration area, would enable these women to develop the confidence in themselves or aid in the development of an internalized locus of control to succeed in the business arena. In conclusion, the creation of biographical information profiles from patterns of experience, provides useful information that may help predict future behaviour. In this regard, the study revealed that the development of a successful woman is attributed to the careful planning, controlling and managing of her adolescence background. References Place, H.
