Abstract

Project Charter for the Walmart Case Study [Name] [University] BUS633: Project & Operations Management (FTJ2427B) [Instructor Name] July 8th, 2024 Project Charter for the Walmart Case Study ILS has initiated a plan to expand its global operations to Australia to target clients such as Walmart and other retailers. It has acquired a warehouse that requires improvement to match the firm’s standards and values. Implementing changes that improve profits while meeting the needs of the people and lowering the impact on the environment is critical before beginning operations at the warehouse (Goel et al., 2020). The current paper is a project charter that describes the scope and limitations, describes the schedule, identifies the milestones, shows how the project aligns with the CSR values for ILS, and identifies the stakeholders of the project. Summary of the Project’s Scope and Limitations Prior to beginning operations at the new warehouse, ILS needs to ensure that it has the capacity to meet the company’s standards. The project seeks to align the newly acquired facility with the CSR values of the organization and its clients. The scope of the project is to determine and resolve the issues that may interfere with the achievement of ILS’s goals for profitability, the people, and the planet (Achi et al., 2021). It will involve the reorganization of the facility to increase efficiency in the delivery of inventory to the clients and consumers. Updating equipment will reduce the maintenance costs and reduce the fuel expenditure to increase profitability. The project’s scope includes providing on-the-job training for employees and reducing the risks of lost time and serious accidents for the employees. The project will not include the expansion of the capacity of the warehousing facility or the fleet of vehicles since such actions are out scope. Business Case for the Project ILS has maintained its commitment to its triple bottom line values of profits, the people, and the planet. The organization seeks to maintain high standards of performance to meet the expectations of its clients and consumers. Through this project, ILS will ensure that it meets the quality requirements for its clients and the consumers for the retail industry (Toljaga-Nikolić et al., 2020). ILS will benefit from the project since it will promote the company’s brand by improving efficiency in the warehouse’s operations. Role of the Project in the Corporate Strategy The project aligns with ILS’s corporate strategy since it ensures the organization meets the stakeholder’s needs. The firm’s long-term success relies on its capacity to expand its worldwide operations and maintaining the trust of existing clients (Goel et al., 2020). It is critical that the organization maintains high-quality and efficient service delivery while targeting new regions of growth. ILS promotes its CSR strategies in operations all over the world. It seeks to promote its brand by maintaining its values in new locations and the project will align the current warehouse with its standards. The project will create a safe working environment that ensures the safety and wellbeing of the employees. Application of CSR Values in the Project ILS’s has established values that align with its dedication to profits, the people, and the planet. The project will achieve profitability in the long-term since it has a net present value (NPV) of $471,075.13 (Exhibit). The reorganization of the warehouse will increase efficiency and minimize late deliveries to clients and their clients. It will improve the working conditions and safety of the employees by reducing the risk of accidents and offering on-the-job training for the employees. Reducing energy wastage and implementing the use of renewable energy sources will lower the carbon footprint for the warehouse and reduce its environmental impact. Milestone Schedule The first milestone for the project is determining the budget and time allocation for each activity in the project within the first month. With the initial allocation of $100,000 and one year for the project, it is necessary to specify the resource allocation for each activity. By...
