Objective: Students will familiarize themselves with resources available at Bogolmony Library and the process for finding and evaluating scientific sources. Part I: Below are three Guide on the Side (GOTS) links. Complete the prompts located at all three GOTS links. Note that the GOTS will open as a separate, small browser window, so please follow the page re-sizing instructions. You will need to do this assignment on a laptop or desktop computer to view the browser windows correctly. NOTE: In order to receive credit for the assignment, you *MUST* put in your name and email to email on the last page of the GOTS and you *MUST* hit the “Print/Send email” button to receive the completion certificate. Make sure your email is spelled correctly, or you risk losing your answers to the void of the internet. If you close out of the browser before sending yourself the email, you will have to redo the GOTS from the beginning. For this assignment, an annotated bibliography includes: 1. Full citation for the source. You can choose your citation style – what matters most is that your use the same style for all sources. 2. Direct link to the source (if accessible online) 3. A few sentences describing the information provided by the source (summarize the source) using 1.5 line spacing 4. They document both Wood Turtle populations as declining when the habitat was opened to human recreation, and they also witnessed an increase in the average age of turtle population. The increase in the average age suggests that the turtle populations were not reproducing, as no/few young/baby turtles were observed. Both populations disappeared in the 10 years after the habitat was opened for recreation. The authors suspect that the impact of recreational activities in the wildlife reserve and possibly poaching, led to the disappearance of both populations. This paper was published in the peer reviewed scientific journal Ecological Applications. J. Burger is a professor at Rutgers University in the School of Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources. Steven D. Garber is an environmental consultant with a PhD in Ecology and Evolution.
