Abstract
[Name] The pipeline is a drama genre written by Dominique Morisseau about the harsh life that the people of color go through in the name of spending their lives in America. Paying close attention to schools within America, the writer directs the play's title to a pipeline of school-to-prison experience that is common to young adults of color. Based on this production, it is clear that Nya and Omariβs struggles are tragically frequent. However, Omari seems to express an accurate picture of the stages that define a nonwhite citizen in America. The term pipeline is coined around the fact that though a black child may be bright and determined to learn and attain a better grade, a simple mistake turns their lives in a different direction. The black student assault on the teacher redefines their destiny and vanishes their expectations. Incarcerating black people continues to register rises not because the whites do not make a mistake but rather the blacks are associated with crime in all odds of life. Inadequate encouragement always befell the blacks regardless of their efforts to make ends meet. It is a play that best defines race as a factor that defines one's place in America. Morisseau's production sheds light on a hopeless situation that defines the people of colors path to their destiny. It examines the inner lives of interesting personalities and the forces that energize them against societal backdrops. Though the people of color believe that they are entitled to enjoying the rights entitled to all Americans, Morisseau emphasizes the need for the people of color to understand their value and fight for their rights regardless of the challenging path to acquiring such privileges.
